Why Democratic Society?

I care deeply about strengthening democracy, especially in today’s challenging times. What motivates me is bringing together my research and practical work to help make democracy more inclusive and resilient when it’s needed most. At Demsoc, I get to do just that—working on projects that give people a voice in decisions that affect their lives, and making sure those decisions are fair, informed, and democratic.

Arild Ohren is a researcher at NTNU and the Senior Democratic Expert at the Democratic Society, connected to the EU mission NetZeroCities. He holds a PhD in Political Science from NTNU, with a focus on Deliberative Mini-Publics and political representation. As one of Norway's leading researchers on deliberative mini-publics and democratic innovations, Arild has co-authored the Norwegian handbook on conducting deliberative mini-publics and has helped design and organize multiple deliberative mini-publics in Norway.
