Who we are
Meet the team and find out about our work.
About us
Democratic Society is a network of people working to create a democracy that works for the 21st century. We undertake practical projects, conduct research and build new democratic infrastructure that lets people involve themselves in the decisions that shape their lives.
Based in Brussels but with offices across Europe, we work to build a democracy where citizens' voices are heard from the street up to national and European governments.
Networked, connected and engaged
The world is ever more globalised and interconnected, and democracy needs to reflect that. When decisions are taken at European or global level, they affect people in communities. When people participate in their communities, their voice needs to be heard at national and global level.
We are part of global democracy innovation groups, like Democracy Research and Development, and have networks around the world. In our work, we regularly work in partnership with democracy organisations, civil society and others, and work to build open networks in which all can freely participate.
We are non-partisan and politically independent, but that doesn't mean we don't care. We are an engaged organisation, committed to realising our values of openness, equality, fairness, and internationalism in everything we do.
Our staff and members are passionate individuals, active in a wide range of causes. We encourage them to be active citizens - while ensuring rigorous, impartial and independent process in our own work.
Our team
Our team are based in ten countries across Europe. They're our biggest asset and they make democracy better for everyone.
